Previously supplied thread ground parts were extremely expensive to produce.   They often had to be replaced because of fatigue failure.   This is the lesson an actuator supplier learned about the ball screws it was using.

But, all was not lost: The company found substantial savings when it discovered PST, which developed a high quality rolled screw that replaced the existing ground part.   In addition to saving initial dollars, the supplier is now able to provide a service-life guarantee.

Manufacturing advantages:
  • Each ball screw assembly consists of a precision rolled screw.
  • Efficiencies can be over 90 percent.
  • Nominal diameters from .187" to 4" with thread micro finish typically 4 to 12 R.M.S.
  • Induction heat treating to Rockwell C52 with ends machined for bearings.
  • Cold forming gives threads higher fatigue strength.
The PST thread form maintains tight contact angle control providing minimal backlash.   PST ball screws are up to three times more efficient than ACME-type screws.
